Updated Training Requirements - 2008

To work in Engineering Physics or CEDT facilities, a number of courses are mandatory. Some of these courses are mandated by Eng Phys and the CEDT directly, while certain courses are mandated by the University's EOHSS office or other oversight bodies, like Health Physics.

Eng Phys and the CEDT typically require courses that pertain directly to the specific hazards encountered in our facilities.

Job Hazard Assessment

As of 2008, McMaster has introduced the requirement that all employees complete a Job Hazard Assessment (JHA).

The JHA is intended for record keeping purposes and is expected to reflect the identified mandatory training.

We appreciate that all employees arrange with their supervisor to complete a JHA form by March 2008.

EOHSS courses serve two purposes. Some courses EOHSS provides, like WHMIS, are regulated by the government. Other courses, like "ergonomics" or "slips, trips, and falls," have been developed because statistical trends have identified that these issues cause significant numbers of injuries on campus.

The following table is derived from McMaster's "Corporate Training Matrix." As well, Eng Phys and the CEDT have identified additional courses specifically relevant to our facilities.

Please note, some people fall into more than one category. For example:

Teaching Assistant Role - Academic & Admin, Laboratory.
Faculty Role - Faculty (with Lab Research), Faculty (without Lab Research), Supervisor.
