McMaster University undertook a study with the fundamental objective of addressing the deficiencies of the existing system of vehicular access to the McMaster University campus.

Presently, there are discontinuities in the access system that make it difficult for visitors to the University to enter the campus and to find parking. The highway and arterial road network leads visitors to the Main Street entrance, which is confusing and disjointed. The other major entrance to campus, the Sterling Street entrance, often affects operations on the public road network bounding the University.

McMaster University has made a commitment to redesign access to campus around a new Main Street entrance, to be completed in 2007.
