Tyrosine Kinase-Mediated Serine Phosphorylation and Enhancement of Adenylyl Cyclase Activity

Contact Person: Christopher M. Tan (ctan@julian.uwo.ca)

Discussion and Conclusion

Vanadate mediates a tyrosine kinase dependent enhancement of adenylyl cyclase isoform VI activity; further, this is related to a tyrosine kinase-dependent serine phosphorylation of the catalytic subunit. Mutation of serine residues located in and adjacent to the C1b catalytic region completely abrogates the vanadate-mediated enhancement of adenylyl cyclase activity. Tyrosine kinase-dependent serine phosphorylation represents a novel mechanism whereby tyrosine kinase activation may modify G-protein linked responses.
