Abstract

We followed up the incidence of the nonspecific bronchial hiperresponsivenes in workers exposed to synthetic mineral abrasive dusts of silicon carbide. The suspicion of nonspecific bronchial hiperresponsivenes was based on a screening test with the European Community Questionnaire for Respiratory Symptoms, revised edition, 1989, and the selected cases were investigated with the PC20 histamine test. From 191 dust exposed subjects, 50 were suspected for the clinical symptoms of nonspecific bronchial hiperresponsivenes and from these, 21 were tested with histamine. We obtained 17 positive responses at doses bellow 8 mg. which means an efficiency of the questionnaire of 79.2% and an estimated incidence of the nonspecific bronchial hiperresponsivenes at 20.9% from the exposed workers.
