The aim of the investigation was to define possible risk factors of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in workers handling active chemical allergens (epoxy resins and amine hardeners). 145 workers handling epoxy resins and amine hardeners in similar working conditions underwent dermatological examination. A specially developed questionnaire was used to evaluate possible risk factors. The frequencies of different sociodemographical and amamnestical factors were compared in workers with signs of ACD and healthy workers. The frequencies of several factors were significantly higher in workers with ACD than in persons without ACD (p < 0.05): female gender, months of birth from March to May, place of living in less than 5 km from place of work, occupational contact with hepatotoxical chemical substances in the past, respiratory allergy and dermatomycoses in anamnesis. The above-mentioned factors can be regarded as risk factors of ACD for persons handling chemical allergens at work. The obtained data were used to create a computer system for evaluating individual risk of ACD in workers handling chemical allergens.
