Abstract

UniNet (www.uni-net.org) is like a Virtual City of Knowledge. The project is universal, thematic, linguistically and geographically, open to all professions, scientifical, humanistical and to all cultural/artistic initiatives, grouped in Virtual User Community. Uninet use Internet like a vehicle of communication for all its members. The UniNet contribution is the development of a system with integration of telematic resources in a stable Network, specially designed for Science, with a universal vocation, of the thematic, language and geographic point of view. The network at the moment has ten servers, with uni-net.org domain. They are located in Argentina, Colombia, Deutschland, Spain and USA. Every community, have a Web site, FTP server, mailing list, database of web resources, etc. We are working in the development of other services, as databases, chat in webs, unicast and multicast audioconference, news, Mbone, etc. We want to offer to our community all the tools that Internet gives in a free way. These tools are widely used due to the standardization of applications under protocol TCP/IP in almost all the well-known hardware platforms. We outline the present tendencies for the transmission of audio and video and the utility that for Uninet can suppose the use of these technologies.
