Museums
Hamilton has a number of museums, many of which are National Heritage Sites, amongst others these include Dundurn Castle, Battlefield House, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, and Whitehern. A complete list with tour information and events can be found here.
Royal Botanical Gardens
One of Canada's premier botanical displays, the Royal Botanical Gardens is located close the McMaster Campus. The Gardens offers a large display of outdoor and indoor gardens and rare species.
Art Galleries
The Hamilton Art Gallery in the downtown of the city offers a variety of different exhibits throughout the year. These exhibits showcase local, international and renowned artists. Further information can be found here.
In addition to the city art gallery, McMaster Museum of Art, located on the McMaster campus, displays the works of students of the arts, as well as many Canadian and international artists. Additional details are available here.
The James St North area of Hamilton also offers an artist's enclave, with many artists and galleries displaying their works. The second Friday of each month, an art crawl is offered, where the public is invited to see all that the area artists have to offer. Information on the art crawl can be found here.
Dining
Within a very short distance of the McMaster Campus, there is an excellent selection of dining possibilities ranging from fast food to pub fare, to one of the finest restaurants in Canada. Within immediate walking distance of McMaster, the Westdale area of the city offers a number of establishments, including a vegetarian restaurant, two bistro type establishments, an Italian restaurant, a British style pub as well as a number of fast food outlets. Only a short drive away in Dundas, there is Quattro Foglio, rated one of the top ten restaurants in Canada, as well as a number of other restaurants.
