The brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP), has shown a deficient cochlear frequency response valuation. When dealing with this problem through the years, authors have used different stimuli types and ipsilateral masking techniques. We are presenting a study to adults with normal hearing (previous audiologic study) with BAEP and 0,5, 1, 2 and 4 kHz logon stimuli at 100, 80 60 and 40 dB p.e. SPL. The morphology of these logon stimuli matches basic characteristics already described by Gabor in 1947, as the best agreement between morphology and frequency specificity. The results we have obtained show a good identification in the morphologic waves of the registers (even in low frequency recordings -500 and 1.000 Hz), which allows in that way to get latencies and interlatencies valuation for each frequency depending on the stimuli intensity. It also shows and increases in latencies for low frequencies but no differences are found regarding interlatencies between logon and click recordings. As a conclusion, we think that the brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) technique with frequency specific stimuli, as logon is suitable to objective auditory and retrocochlear pathology valuation when 'click' studies are not conclusive.
