The Provost and Vice-President (Academic) is the chief academic officer of the University. Reporting to the President, the Provost leads academic, strategic and financial planning.

The Provost and Vice-President (Academic) provides vision and leadership for all of McMaster’s academic activities including faculty recruitment, retention and promotion; attracting and retaining excellent students; enrolment management; graduate and undergraduate program development and assessment; student life; academic budget and space allocation; and strategic planning.

The Deans of Faculties, Vice-Provosts of; Faculty, Graduate Studies, Teaching and Learning, and, International Affairs. Associate Vice-Presidents of; Student Affairs, Finance and Planning, and, Equity and Inclusion. The University Librarian, the Director of the Museum of Art, and the Chief Technolcoy Officer (joint report) report to the Provost.
