Expert Advisory: Who gets hurt when the wealthy move their assets offshore?

HAMILTON, Apr. 4, 2016- Economist Michael Veall, whose research focuses on issues of income inequality, is available to discuss the implications of hiding wealth in offshore accounts and shell companies, a practice that is being revealed by the International Coalition of Investigative Journalists' release of the so-called Panama Papers this week.

Veall, a Professor of Economics, can address issues raised by the revelation of such massive amounts of deliberately (if legally) hidden wealth such questions as:

- How does hiding wealth affect economies?

- Does wealth hiding accelerate income inequality?

- How does hiding wealth affect governments in terms of lost tax revenue?

Veall is available at veall@mcmaster.ca and 905-525-9140 ext. 23829.
