Percent identity between Species:
In common with other studies, you have compared the sequences of cDNAs between two species and determined "% identity" information.

When does % identity decrease to a point where we are talking about a new isoform?  You indicate % identities of 90 percent and over in your comparisons! is 90% enough in a species match between pigs and rodents?   would it be enough for human vs bovine?  Is 90% identity correspondent to the SAME isoform, or at this level are we talking about another member of a gene family?

Many labs are using BLAST to find genes that they have identified in non-mammalian species - how far can  % identities help us in determining homologous sequences?
