The International Forum of Teacher-Scholars first
met in San Diego on April 3, 2004, sponsored by the
American Association for Higher Education. On this
occasion 3M Teaching Fellows met Carnegie Fellows
(US) and UK Teaching Fellows, brainstormed and devised
initiatives whose goal will be to advance, on an international
level, teaching and the scholarship of teaching and
learning.
The Second International Forum of
Teacher Scholars took place on Saturday, June 11,
2005 at the University of Prince Edward Island during
the annual conference of the Society for Teaching
and Learning in Higher Education. The theme was "
Towards a Framework for Quality Assurance for Teaching
and Learning."
The Third International Forum took place Wednesday, July 5, 2006 in Nottingham, England. There were four themes relating to key points in the student life cycle:
- Student recruitment into higher education.
- Retention of first year undergraduates.
- Transition from one Year/Level to another (including across institutions).
- Postgraduate students (especially those engaging in undergraduate tutoring).
The 2007 Forum was hosted by ISSOTL at the conference in Australia. This provides a strong sense of continuity and momentum and aligns well with the desire to move towards a sustained and research-focussed approach.
The 2008 Forum will be held Wednesday, June 18, during the STLHE Annual Conference at the University of Windsor, in Canada. Read more about the theme—National Narratives Project.
