WCAG 2.0 AA Compliance

Guideline 1.2

Provide alternatives for time-based media.

If you have any multimedia being made available through your webpage, you must provide this multimedia in multiple ways that can satisfy each individual sense. To get a better idea of this concept, read through the following sections.

Note that if the time-based media is provided as an alternative to text and is clearly labeled as such, it is exempt from this guideline.

  • Section 1.2.1: Prerecorded audio-only media has an alternative format (such as text or visual), and prerecorded video-only media has an alternative format (such as text or audio).
  • Section 1.2.2: Captions are provided for all prerecorded audio content. This allows hearing impaired users to access the captions that are stored directly within the audio track.
  • Section 1.2.3: An alternative description is provided for the events happening in prerecorded visual media. (This is covered in Section 1.2.5 as well)
  • Section 1.2.4: Captions are provided for all live audio content. (not required)
  • Section 1.2.5: Audio description is provided for all prerecorded video content. (not required)
