Microsoft Office 365 for Students

All Undergraduate and Graduate Students currently enrolled at McMaster, including all affiliate campuses (Conestoga-McMaster and Mohawk-McMaster) qualify for the free Office 365 subscription, which includes free downloads of the Office Applications for Windows and Mac.

Office 365 is Microsoft's cloud-based software which provides productivity software and related services to subscribers. It includes versions of Microsoft Office apps, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint along with storage space on Microsoft's cloud storage service OneDrive. Office 365 also provides a workspace for groups of users to communicate with each other, store group files, share documents with other users and collaborate in real time.

The Office applications can be used from any web browser or downloaded and installed on up to 5 devices (Windows or Mac), and includes unlimited installations on mobile devices on iOS and Android

How to Sign In
  1. Step 1: Find your MacID and password.
  2. Step 2: When you sign in, enter your MacID followed by "" into the top field. For example, if your MacID were "smithj," you would enter "".
  3. Step 3: Enter your password into the lower field.

  4. Desktop applications include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, & OneNote. Windows desktop installations also include Publisher & Access.
  5. Additional software also included outside of Office: Teams

Email Not Included

It should be noted that undergraduate, graduate, staff, and faculty email services will NOT be available through the Office 365 suite. Staff and Faculty will continue to use the MacMail service and all students will continue to use the Studentmail service powered by Google.

Accessibility in Office 365

Office 365 works with screen readers, speech recognition tools, and keyboard shortcuts. When using the Office 365 portal or any of the Office Online applications, you can also use the accessibility features built in to your web browser. McMaster is pleased to provide Office 365 and additional Microsoft products to students; however, the University does not provide support on the installation or use of this software on personal devices. Students are responsible for how they use it.
