Women in Leadership Women in LeadershipSusan Elliott
McMaster Dean of Social Sciences

If you ask Susan Elliott to give one piece of advice toward road to success, her response would be "never say no to an opportunity- as sometimes we are presented with opportunities we are too timid to take up, and we often don't see skills or talents in ourselves that others see." As a mother of two daughters, a professor, a geographer, and now taking on the new role as Dean of Social Science in McMaster, Susan is one of the few female senior administrators in Canadian Universities. A great supporter for innovative teaching and initiative to integrate health and social sciences by the end of her term as the Dean, Susan has proven how one can succeed by leading by example-being an active researcher in a faculty where research is essential.
