Rainwater Harvesting

The construction of the new Engineering Technology Building is on target to receive L.E.E.D Gold Certification.  One of the buildings greatest features is that is has been equipped with an innovative rainwater harvesting system that collects rainwater from the building’s rooftop to be used within and around the building.

Studies have shown that reliance on the municipal water system can be reduced 70-90% by just replacing non-potable water. However, McMaster and Facility Services are taking this one step further with plans to treat the rainwater so that it may also supply the need for potable uses (Thompson Rosemount Group).
