Expert available to discuss ongoing crisis
in Egypt
Hamilton, Ont. January 28, 2011—Robert O’Brien, chair of political science and the director of the Institute of Globalization and the Human Condition, is available to discuss the escalating crisis in Egypt.
“Egypt has some very serious problems and many reasons for discontent,” says O’Brien, who has lived in the Middle East. “It has a very large population that is very young and there is a great deal of poverty or corruption. Combine that with a growing frustration over the inability of people to express their political views and the situation is explosive.”
If these demonstrations in Egypt are successful, he says, the violence could spread, making other states such as Syria and Jordan vulnerable.
