Expert available to discuss federal budget, possibility of spring election
Hamilton, Ont. March 21, 2011—Peter Graefe, associate professor in the Department of Political Science is available to discuss Tuesday’s federal budget, a contempt vote being mounted by the Liberals and the likelihood of an election call.
“All the parties have reasons to want an election, but all of them also are quite afraid of what might happen. It will be
a week of political chicken,” he says. “The question for Canadians is whether we see a budget that responds to
public priorities, an election framed around divergent visions for our country, or the petty bickering that turns off
Canadians even as fundamental social and democratic questions are being decided.”
