Report on the Status of the Faculty Remuneration Negotiations

The current remuneration agreement expires on June 30, 2006.  In a year when an agreement expires, the Joint Committee Agreement calls for a report to be issued to you if a new agreement has not been reached before February 1st.  Agreement has not been reached and hence this report, which will be very brief.

While negotiations have been collegial, the parties are still far apart.  Most discussions have focussed on a one-year agreement.

The Committee has discussed details of the University's financial position with emphasis on the cost of the pension and benefit plans, comparisons of McMaster faculty salaries and class sizes  with those at other Ontario universities, and recent wage and salary settlements within the University and at other Ontario Universities.

Negotiations continue.

On behalf of the Joint Committee,

Ken Norrie
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
Betty Ann Levy
President, Faculty Association
