Dr. Grover, As I did not see a reply to your query, I thought I would interject.  Dopamine, is not a typical neurotransmitter - it, like the locus ceruleus norepinephrine and like sympathetic neuron norepinephrine, is released via local varicosities into the general environment of the neuron. These are cleared relatively slowly.  The function of these transmitters is more to modulate neuronal function rather than passing on specific bits of information.
