Sociodemographic features associated with treatment compliance in hypertension

I consider very interesting this paper, hypertension is one of my research fields in Cuba, and I would like to do some questions.
Which was the criteria used for compliance? How was it measured?
It is very interesting to find out men are more "accomplishers" than women, as to my experience women are usally more disciplinated as to treatment accomplishment referred, and to use drugs more frequently than men.
Also it's been interesting the high accomplishment percentage achieved.
