the impact of sensory cues on the female brain

I doubt that the observed absence of intromission-induced increases in neural Fos in female sheep can be attributed to the fact that males achieve a single intromission prior to ejaculation (in contrast to rats, which achieve several intromissions). Female ferrets typically receive a single, prolonged intromission and show significantly higher numbers of Fos-IR cells in the medial amygdala and in several hypothalamic regions after receipt of an intromission vs exposure only to odors from a male (Wersinger et al., Endo 1138:1121, 1997)
