Deputy Chief and Division Head of General Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario is seeking to recruit an academic Deputy Chief and Division Head of General Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine.  This full-time position is located at Hamilton Health Sciences – McMaster Site.  The current complement of seven specialists offers tertiary care in Maternal and Fetal Medicine and General Obstetrics for the City of Hamilton LHINs 3 and 4 (Waterloo Wellington, Hamilton Niagara, Haldimand and Brant) with 23,000 deliveries.

The Deputy Chief & Division Head is an integral and important leadership role with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.  The primary responsibility of the this position is to provide leadership and role modeling to create and preserve an environment within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology of mutual purpose, respect and professionalism.  Within this environment, excellence in clinical care, education and research can flourish.

The successful candidate will be a Generalist or Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist, preferably, with many years of clinical practice and proven leadership experience.  This position will be expected to lead and direct the general and high risk services and have full responsibility for quality and safety of clinical services.  The candidate will be involved with postgraduate and undergraduate medical education learners as well as the sub-specialty Fellowship training program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  The appropriate candidate would be expected to have an active research program.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in clinical research and education.
