Academic Trauma Surgeon / General Surgeon

McMaster University in conjunction withHamilton Health Sciences is seeking an academic trauma surgeon/ general surgeon with a proven leadership record. The Hamilton Trauma Program and General Surgery Program serves a catchment area of more than 2.5 million residents. The regional service also provides tertiary and quaternary level care to patients from other regions of the province and plays an essential role in the support of several other regional programs.  The regional trauma service and, together with the Department of Surgery, McMaster University is involved in undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience and training in the management of trauma and general surgery appropriate for an academic tertiary care level referral centre, preferably with international experience.  He/she will be expected to show evidence of exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiative to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of both the regional Trauma Service and the General Surgery service.  A commitment and leadership in the academic initiatives of the Trauma Service and the General Surgery Program will be expected. Preference will be given to candidates with ATLS Instructor status and interest in ATLS program management.  The successful candidate will be appointed at a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, in General Surgery with a Fellowship in Trauma and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
