Academic Thoracic Surgeon
McMaster University in conjunction with St. Joseph's Healthcare, Hamilton is seeking a full-time academic thoracic surgeon. The Thoracic Surgery Division serves a catchment area of more than 2.5 million residents. The regional service also provides tertiary and quaternary level care to patients from other regions of the province and plays an essential role in the support of several other regional programs. The regional thoracic surgery service, together with the Department of Surgery, McMaster University is involved in undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education programs. The Division also enjoys a collaborative relationship with the Division of Thoracic Surgery in Toronto which offers unique opportunities in collaborative education and research initiatives. The successful candidate will be active in these activities. Clinical activity will be focused at St. Joseph's Healthcare.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience and training in the management of both benign and malignant thoracic surgery care appropriate for an academic tertiary care level referral centre. He/she will be expected to show evidence of exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiative to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of the regional Thoracic Surgery Service. A full time academic appointment at the appropriate level in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University is required and will be available to the successful applicant. A commitment in surgical education at all levels is essential, as well as active participation in academic initiatives of the Thoracic Surgery Division, including leadership in research.
Applicants must have a Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery, Certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Preference will be given to applicants with interest in clinical trials and evidence based surgery.
