Tenure-Track Position - Assistant Professor

The Department of Health, Aging and Society and the Indigenous Studies Program at McMaster University invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor starting July 1, 2013.This cross-appointed position requires someone with research and teaching interests in Aboriginal Health, Aboriginal Health and Aging, and/or Aboriginal Health Policy. The Department of Health, Aging and Society is an interdisciplinary unit with a focus on social and cultural constructions of health, illness and aging as well as the broader determinants of health and aging. The Department has a strong research focus and prides itself on a commitment to excellent educational practices. The Indigenous Studies Program has brought a strong focus on Indigenous knowledge to McMaster research and teaching for over twenty years. Guided by an intentional structure of community consultation, it has made McMaster a destination for up and coming Indigenous scholars and worked towards lively engagement with Indigenous knowledge throughout the university disciplines.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline, although applicants who have all of the requirements for the PhD completed by July 1, 2013 will be considered. Candidates will be expected to establish a research program in their field and to compete successfully for external funding.

The Department of Health, Aging and Society and the Indigenous Studies Programs are both research-oriented. The Department of Health, Aging and Society has an active graduate program leading to the degree of MA and is currently developing a doctoral program.
