Assistant Professor - Contractually Limited Appointment
The School of Geography & Earth Sciences and the Arts & Science Program at McMaster Univeristy invite applications for a three-year contractually limited appointment, effective July 1, 2013, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The CLA appointee will contribute teaching to the School of Geography & Earth Sciences (SGES) and the Arts & Science Program, and will work as an Educational Consultant in McMaster's Centre for Leadership in Learning (CLL).
Duties will focus on pedagogical activities and the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) within CLL, and will also include active involvement in undergraduate classroom instruction. In order to meet identified teaching needs, the position will be housed within the School of Geography & Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Science and will contribute 6 units of teaching to SGES or the Integrated Science (iSci) program and 6 units of teaching to the Arts & Science program. The appointee will also contribute to educational activities in CLL and will engage in scholarly research in the field of teaching and learning. Demonstrated teaching competence in disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields is essential.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree in the Earth Sciences and will also have a record of engagement in pedagogical research and SoTL activities. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level with experience teaching courses in introductory Earth & Environmental Science and senior level glacial sedimentology. Experience teaching undergraduate courses in Earth Science using inquiry-based methods of instruction is preferred. The current annual salary floor is $66,243 for an Assistant Professor with an appropriate doctoral degree. A package of benefits as well as a professional development allowance will be provided.
