Division of Nephrology, Academic Nephrologist
The Department of Medicine, McMaster University and the Division of Nephrology, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, seek an Academic Nephrologist to join the Department. This is a full-time faculty position, in the Clinician Educator stream, for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Expected start date is July 1, 2014.
Applicants should be certified in Nephrology (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
The Division of Nephrology comprises 14 full-time nephrologists and 4 PhD researchers who are engaged in clinical practice, education and research. The Division provides tertiary nephrology and renal transplantation care to the central-west region of Ontario. The clinical program consists of approximately 600 chronic hemo and 120 chronic peritoneal dialysis patients, and the transplant program performs approximately 100 grafts per year with over 1000 transplanted patients followed. There is a very successful residency program with 1-2 new trainees per year. Successful laboratory and clinical research programs provide an excellent academic atmosphere.
As a member of the Department of Medicine, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to clinical scholarly activities including teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs. The successful applicant will have a primary interest in general nephrology and dialysis care. The applicant will manage in-patient acute renal failure (including acute dialysis) and provide in-patient general nephrology consultation at all three teaching hospital sites in Hamilton for approximately 12 weeks per year. The applicant will also provide a Nephrology out-patient referral consultation service seeing approximately 40-50 out patients per week. Remuneration will be based on clinical billings and is in-line with academic nephrologist remuneration in Ontario.
