Instructions provided for understanding and operating content do not rely solely on sensory characteristics of components such as shape, size, visual location, orientation, or sound.
For example, using arrows to mark the next page or providing a color-coded chart is using a single sensory characteristic. If you wish to represent your data this way, you have to provide several alternatives to the primary method of displaying your information.
The most reliable way to convey your information while conforming to WCAG is to provide a text alternative to the sensory element.
