Visitor & Guest Services

If you are planning to come to McMaster University and would like to bring your laptop computer and use it to go on-line, there are some things you need to know about our system:

MacConnect and MAC ID

McMaster University has both wired and wireless internet connectivity. In order to use the internet at McMaster, either wired or wireless, you must have a valid MAC ID (username). If you are attending a conference here at the university, the Conference Services Office can provide you with a guest MAC ID user account.

Connecting to the Wireless or Wired Network

  • Before logging in, ensure that the wireless network or wired network cable (in public areas) is connected to "Macconnect".
  • Launch your web browser of choice and you will be redirected to the network sign in page. At this time, enter your macid and password and click on "submit". Do not use the "enter" key as this may provide unpredictable results.
  • Once authenticated, you will then be able to browse the internet at will.

Windows users: It is strongly recommended that you ensure you have all the latest Microsoft Windows Updates and security patches as well as an up to date anti-virus program on your laptop. This will help to maintain smooth operation of your laptop and protected from malicious virues and spyware.

Before You Leave Home

  • Update your computer with the latest Windows updates and patches. You may obtain the updates here http://update.microsoft.com
  • Install and/or update your antivirus program to the latest virus definitions. Most antivirus programs have the ability to update on demand or automatically
