Citrix Connection for ViP and BI/FM Application Users

Citrix Logo

Overview

UTS is introducing Citrix (Citrix Xenapp 5.0 Server Farm) a NEW preferred method of connecting to McMaster applications such as ViP and SAS BI/FM. ViP and SAS BI/FM applications are installed on multiple servers and then shared out or published for use by many concurrent users. With Citrix, these applications are monitored for performance and provide an increased layer of security.

Citrix Xenapp Architecture

What Changes to expect?
VPN will no longer be needed to connect to the ViP application as the application will now be launched from a web page.

Access to the application
To access ViP you need to have a valid MacID and password, you need to be an active ViP or SAS user, and you need to be granted permission to Citrix by the Service Desk at uts@mcmaster.ca or extension 24357. Note: During the Citrix project implementation phase, granting of permission to Citrix will be completed on your behalf by the project team.

Connect to the application
To configure your browser and to install the citrix client click here. To connect to the applications, open your browser and navigate to: https://macapps.mcmaster.ca.

Save information
At this time, you will only be allowed to save files to a network drive. You will not have access to your local C: drive when connecting through Citrix to ViP.

Secure Data
By downloading this software you acknowledge that you are accountable for the security and privacy of all McMaster payroll and human resources data accessible on your computer. Consistent with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, you must only use human resources and payroll information on a need to know basis to do your job. You have an obligation to ensure that your computer is physically secure, that all operating patches have been applied, that your virus software is current, and that your password is not shared - ever!

If you export data or print reports, you absolutely must ensure the security and privacy of data outside of the ViP application. For example, confidential information should never be sent via e-mail; reports should be stored in locked cabinets and shredded when no longer required; access to your computer should be password protected; and any notebook with confidential information should never be left unattended in an accessible area (front seat of a car, meeting room, an open office).

For assistance or at any time you believe that the security of your computer may have been compromised, please contact the Service Desk immediately at uts@mcmaster.ca or extension 24357.
