What is 'Student Technology Services'?
The 'Student Technology Services' department is specifically concerned with the computing needs of undergraduate students. We are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Student Computer Labs.
What is a MAC ID?
A MAC ID is the account which allows you access to McMaster Computing Services both on- and off-campus. These services are paid for in your tuition. There is no additional cost except for printing.

- The Student Computer Labs are frequently booked for tutorials, so many of your classes will require that you have one.
- Faculty news bulletins, as well as information from your professors may be sent to your McMaster E-mail address.
- Provides access to course-specific software in the Centres.
- Provides access to other software you may not have at home.
- Allows you to print assignments on campus.
How do I register for my MAC ID?
- Undergraduate Students may register for an account through MUGSI. Log into MUGSI,and from the menu at the bottom, click on "Activate/Renew MAC ID Services" and follow the instructions. For more information, please visit: http://www.mcmaster.ca/uts/macid/index.html
- Follow the instructions on the screen to register for the MAC ID services. Your account will be activated right away
How can I print from the Student Computer Labs?
The first step is to log into one of the machines in any of the five Student Computer Labs. Make sure you have money on your print account. You can do this by double-clicking the coins icon in the bottom right corner of your desktop screen.
Print your document from the appropriate program. Printouts can be picked up from the print room. They are filed alphabetically by username.
If you do not have money on your print account, you can purchase a print voucher from Titles Bookstore in Gilmour Hall or @MediaShop in the Health Sciences Centre.
**Note: It takes 24 HOURS for money added to appear on your account.**

How do I change my password?
You can change your MACID password by accessing the following website: https://acctinfo.uts.mcmaster.ca
Furthermore, your MAC ID password can be changed from the "Security" window in the Windows 2000 machines found in the Student Computer Labs:
- Log into a machine in any UTS Student Computer Lab
- Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del
- Select "Change password"
- Enter your old password, followed by the desired new password twice
- Confirm your new password and click "ok". Your new password will be effective immediately.
I have forgotten my password, what do I do?
Go to https://apps.mcmaster.ca/macid-self-management/password-change/index.htm, where you will be able to:
- Change your MAC ID password
- Enable the self-service MAC ID password reset feature by establishing challenge questions and answers
- Obtain a new MAC ID password if you have forgotten yours using the challenge questions and answers previously set up

What is Avenue to Learn?
Avenue to Learn is a web-based course management system. You can gain access to and obtain information about Avenue to Learn at the Learning Technologies Resource Center.
