Configuring a network card for McMaster (Static IP address) and Home (DHCP) in Windows XP Professional

You are reminded to secure your computer by turning on Windows Firewall and Windows Automatic Update. You must have an up to date anti-virus solution on your computer.

If you intend to make changes to an existing network configuration, write down the information and store it in a safe location before making changes.

Click on Start and select Control Panel.

If the Control Panel looks like the picture below (Category View), click on Switch to Classic View.

Select Network Connections.

Select the Local Area Connection associated with the wired network card. Right click and select Properties.

Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties.

In the General tab window, select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Select the Alternate Configuration tab in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window. Select User configured.

Enter your McMaster IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, Preferred DNS server, Alternate DNS server, Preferred WINS server and Alternate WINS server.

Click on OK.

Click on the Close button.
