Configuring a network card for McMaster (Roaming IP) and Home (DHCP) in Windows XP Professional
You are reminded to secure your computer by turning on Windows Firewall and Windows Automatic Update. You must have an up to date anti-virus solution on your computer.
If you intend to make changes to an existing network configuration, write down the information and store it in a safe location before making changes.
Click on Start and select Control Panel.

If the Control Panel looks like the picture below (Category View), click on Switch to Classic View.

Select Network Connections.

Select the Local Area Connection associated with the wired network card. Right click and select Properties.

Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties.

In the General tab window, select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Click on the Advanced.. button. Select the WINS tab, click on the Add button and enter both IP addresses of the WINS server at McMaster. Click on OK when finished.

Select the Alternate Configuration tab in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window. Select Automatic private IP address and click on OK.

Click on the Close button.
