Activation & Services Guide for Students

MAC ID is a unique identifier assigned to you and is used to access services you are eligible for such as MUGSI, email, and MacConnect. For a comprehensive list see MAC ID Services. Please note MAC ID is not your student number.

Activate Your MAC ID
Only new students will have to activate their MAC ID. Returning students already have a MACID and should follow the instructions, "Enable Your MAC ID Services".

Go to MUGSI at https://mugsi.mcmaster.ca and select "Activate Your MAC ID". Please have your student card on hand for this process. You will be asked for your student number, barcode on your student card and Date of Birth. You will also be asked to set your MAC ID password and responses to 3 personal challenge questions. In the event you forget your MAC ID password, correct answers to your personal challenge questions will enable you to reset your password without having to visit the Service Desk.

Once you have activated your MAC ID, you can logon to MUGSI and complete your course registration through SOLAR and make arrangements for payment. Completing your academic and payment arrangements entitles you for other MAC ID services like email. Follow this link to view the MAC ID activation guide.

As a returning student next year you will not need to activate your MAC ID. Simply follow the guidelines for "Enabling your MAC ID Services" each year.

Enabling Your MAC ID Services
This step applies to:

  • Returning students who have completed their course registration including payment arrangement.

  • New students who have activated their MAC ID and completed their course registration including payment arrangement.

Begin by logging on to MUGSI and select "Enable Your MAC ID Services". You must have your MAC ID to enable other MAC ID services like Email. If you have forgotten your password there are two options for a password reset:

Option 1 - Self Service MAC ID password reset feature
Use the Forgot your MAC ID or Password link on MUGSI to personally reset your password by answering your pre-selected challenge questions.

Or

Option 2 
Come to Technology Services, T13, Room 127 (Building T13 on your campus map) and remember to bring your student ID card with you. Students who are away from the campus on co-op terms or internships, may fax a copy of your student ID card (both sides!) to the Technology Service Desk (our fax # is 905-528-3773).

You must be registered for courses and made arrangements for payment to successfully complete the process. REMEMBER to enable your MAC ID services each year. Follow this link to view the Enable MAC ID services guide.
