This article describes how to revert your browser plug-in for Java on MacOSX from v7 back to v6. This is not an official fix and is offered at your own risk.

Uninstall the current Java plugin

The steps below explain how to uninstall Oracle Java 7 browser plug-in from your Mac. You must have Administrator privileges to run the command.

  1. Click on the Finder icon located in your dock.

  2. Click on Applications tab on sidebar

  3. Click on the Utilities folder

  4. Double-click on the Terminal icon

  5. In the Terminal window Copy and Paste the command below then press Enter:

    sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

Enter your password when prompted. Do not close Terminal as we'll use it again in the next part.

Install a previous Java plugin

  1. Extract the contents of the following download to your desktop:

    MacOSX_java6_plugin.zip

  2. Go to /System/Library/Java/Support and move the existing “CoreDeploy.bundle” to the Trash.

  3. Copy the version of “CoreDeploy.bundle” you extracted (in step 1) here (/System/Library/Java/Support).

  4. Return to Terminal and copy and paste the following command then press Enter:

    sudo ln -s /System/Library/Java/Support/CoreDeploy.bundle/Contents/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

  5. Be sure to fully close any open browsers and then run your Java application again.
