Convert Address Book

1. Locate your PC-Pine address book file and convert it to a LDIF file:

Depending on which version of Windows, the find procedure may look a little different. The Search Window below is for Windows 2000. Earlier versions of Windows will use Find rather than Search.

  1. Click on the Start button, choose Search or Find, and then choose Files or Folders.

  2. Type .addressbook in the Search or Named: field.

  3. Change the setting in the Look in: field to whatever your C drive is called..

  4. Click on the Search Now or Find Now button.

  5. Write down the path of the .addressbook file. The path is under the In Folder column of the search results. This example shows the default path of C:\home\Pine.

  6. Type the path followed by \.addressbook into the box below, and then click on the Submit Query button. For example if the path was c:\home\pine, you would type c:\home\pine\.addressbook in the box below and then click on the Submit button.

  7. Save the file as pine_to.ldif to a temporary folder on your hard drive (e.g. C:\Temp, which is C: drive, Temp folder).

2. Import the LDIF file into Netscape Messenger on a PC:

  1. Start Netscape Navigator or Messenger.

  2. Click on the Communicator menu, and choose Address Book

  3. Click on the address book that you want to import into. It is usually labeled Personal Address Book.

  4. Click on the File menu, and choose Import.

  5. Click on LDIF file (address book), and then click on the Next button.

  6. Open the pine_to.ldif file that was saved on your hard drive from part 1 (e.g. C: drive, Temp folder, pine.ldif).

  7. Verify your Netscape Messenger address book is correct.

3. Import the LDIF file into Netscape Messenger on a MAC:

  1. Start Netscape Navigator or Messenger.

  2. Click on the Communicator menu, and choose Address Book.

  3. Click on the address book that you want to import into. It is usually labeled "Personal Address Book".

  5. Open the pine.ldif file that was previously saved on your Macintosh desktop by locating and double-clicking it.

  6. Now you are done with importing the Pine address book file. You might want to take a look at the error.txt file (using SimpleText or Word) to see if there were any problems/errors from part A. The error.txt file contains information that tells you which line(s) of your Pine address book that might have problems so you can fix them in your Netscape Messenger address book.

  7. Verify your Netscape Messenger address book is correct.
