How to Setup Thunderbird on Mac OSX for use with Univmail

  1. Open Thunderbird.

  2. At the top of the window, click on "Tools" then "Account Settings..."

  3. At the bottom left, click on the "Account Actions" drop down menu and select "Add Mail Account...".

  4. Fill in your name as you want it to appear to people receiving email from your account, your email address and your password. If you would like Thunderbird to remember your password, select the checkbox "Remember password". Click Continue.

  5. Thunderbird will automaticall try to configure your settings but will not get them correct. Once it allows you, enter your settings to match the following info:

    Type: IMAP

    Incoming Server: univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca
    Port: 993
    SSL: SSL/TLS
    Authentication: Normal Password

    Outgoing Server: univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca
    Port: 465
    SSL: SSL/TLS
    Authentication: Normal Password

    Username: MacID (not your full email address)

  6. Click on Create Account
