Netscape Email Setup
When Netscape Communicator is started for the first time, it prompts you to create a user profile. Open Netscape Messenger by selecting it from the Program menu. If you are prompted to create a Profile, you are likely using Netscape Communicator for the first time. Follow the steps below to complete the configuration. If you are not prompted to create a new profile click on Start, Programs, Netscape Communicator, Utilities, User Profile Manager, New.
1. Click on Next> at the Creating a New Profile window.

2. Enter your full name and email address. *The standard email format is MACID@mcmaster.ca. Click on Next>

3. Leave the default settings under Choose a Name and Directory for your profile. Click on Next>

4. Under the Set up your outgoing Mail Server window, type univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca:26. Click on Next>

5. Under the Set up your Incoming Mail Server window, type in your username and univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca for Incoming Mail Server. Select IMAP for Mail Server type. Click on Next>

6. Under set up your newsgroups Server window enter newserver.mcmaster.ca if you wish to use the news server otherwise leave as is. The default Port number should be 119; do not change this! Leave the Secure checkbox unchecked. Finally click on Finish to store your new setup and launch Netscape Communicator.

7. Click on Edit from the Menu bar at the top. Click on Preferences and double click on Mail Servers. Select Always for Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages.

8. Select univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca and click on Edit. Under Mail Server Properties window you may set Messenger to remember your password and check for mail every 15 minutes. Do not set the check for mail value to less than 5 minutes.

9. Click on the IMAP tab in Mail Server Properties window. Put a check mark in Use secure connection (SSL).
Select Move it to the Trash Folder (It will be removed when Empty Trash is selected). Check Empty Trash on exit.

10. Click on the Advanced tab in Mail Server Properties window. Make sure the IMAP server directory box is empty.
Uncheck Show only subscribed folders. Click on OK.

11. Click on OK to exit preferences.
You may choose to create local mail folders to organize and store mail. The Sent, Drafts and Template folders can be stored on the local computer or on UnivMail. Double click on Copies and Folders within Preferences to change the location.
12. Deleting Messages
Deleted messages in trash are still part of your disk quota. To remove a deleted message immediately, click on File from the menu bar and select Empty trash on univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca. Note that messages removed from Trash cannot be restored.
13. Moving Messages and Folders within Netscape Messenger
Open Netscape Messenger. Identify the folder on UnivMail you want to move to your Local Mail. Click on and Drag the identified folder from UnivMail to Local Mail and then release mouse. The selected folder on UnivMail will be copied to your local mail folder on your computer.
There are several ways to move email between folders, keep important messages on UnivMail and move less important messages to your local folders.
Option 1
Select the email or emails you want to move. Click on File in the menu bar and then select folder from the drop down list you want the emails moved into and release mouse.

Option 2
Select the email or emails. Right click and select Move and the local folder to store the selected email.

Unwanted messages should be deleted from any folder to reduce disk space.
