ISS BlackICE PC Protection Installation

The following instructions will assist you with installing the ISS BlackICE (PC/Server) Protection software.
Please note that the steps required and screenshots shown may vary slightly between different operating systems.

1.
To begin, double-click on the BlackICE installation file. This will start the process of extracting files to load the installer.

2. When the following installation screen appears, click on Next.

3. Read over the End-User Licence Agreement carefully, and if you accept the terms of use, then click on I ACCEPT.

4. When prompted to enter the licence key for BlackICE, do so and click on Next.

5. You will then be prompted for the installation destination. To accept the default folder in which BlackICE will be installed, click on Next.

6. You will also be prompted for the folder in which to install the program icons/shortcuts. To accept the default folder name of "ISS," click on Next.

7. Application Protection is a feature of BlackICE which allows it to intercept any programs which attempt to access the network (ie. LAN or Internet). UTS recommends that this feature be enabled, which it is by default. To accept this option, click on Next.

8. The installation summary is provided to you and will appear similar to the screenshot below. If everything is correct, click on Next to begin file copying and installation. Otherwise, click on Back and change any options you wish.

9. When the file copying is complete, the following prompt will appear. Clicking on Finish will display the README file. You may close the Notepad window displaying the README file after reading it carefully.

10. After clicking on Finish, the following window will also appear indicating that the Application Protection feature will begin to analyze your computer.

Then, the Application Protection Settings window will appear (shown below), and display a bar indicating the progress of analyzing your computer. Any programs that are recognized by BlackICE will be saved in its database (called the "baseline"). Attempts to access the LAN or Internet with an unrecognized or a modified application will cause BlackICE to intervene and prompt you for action.

11. When the analysis of your computer is complete, the Application Protection Settings window will disappear. You will see the BlackICE icon in your System Tray (usually the lower right corner of your screen, in the Windows Taskbar), indicating that it is active; installation of the BlackICE software is now complete.
