Student Technology Centres Policies
The primary purpose of the Student Computer Labs is to promote inquiry and team learning. These policies are intended to clarify your responsibilities as our client.
Student Computer Lab - Policies
A Student Computer Lab is a study and learning environment. All McMaster University policies apply and compliance is essential and expected. For information on all relevant policies, please refer to the McMaster University Code of Conduct for computer and network usage.
In consideration of others working in the Student Computer Lab, please keep noise to a minimum. Also, if there are students waiting for a computer and you are using one for anything other than studying or class assignments, please give up your seat so others can complete their work.
Placing books or personal belongings on any printer, monitor, or computer equipment may interfere with hardware operation and/or inhibit proper cooling functions for the equipment or trigger the security system.
A Student Computer Lab is a place where all users feel welcome and respected. To that end, the display of any obscene material (on computer monitors or elsewhere) is not permitted. Such materials may not be printed, scanned, or displayed in any of the Student Computer Labs.
Keep the Student Computer Labs and all areas around computers clean and free of food. Eating is prohibited anywhere within the Student Technology Centres. Only beverages in any covered container are permitted.
Account Security
You are required to log out of the system when you leave the Student Technology Centre - even if only for a short time. Failure to do so may result in someone else accessing your account without your knowledge. Computers may not be saved for your use while you are away from the Student Computer Lab. You are responsible for any violation of University policies that occur with your account, even when you did not perform the action.
Assistance (Help)
For help with passwords, printing accounts or any problems using the computer, printer, scanner, or software please see the Student Consultant on duty.
Storing files and data
Data on machines will be deleted regularly and without notice. Users are responsible for saving their documents.
