Standards/Guidelines

Guidelines are specific configuration recommendations to systems administrators regarding the secure configuration of the devices within their care.  The guidelines are based on industry best practice, and incorporate the needs of McMaster University constituents.

IT Security will occasionally seek the support of the various governing bodies on campus, such as the PCI Steering Committee or the Technical Round Table, to create standards based on these guidelines.  The intent of standard is to provide system administrators with minimum requirement to which they must comply for the systems defined by the scope of the document.

The guidelines and standards are subject to periodic review and update.  IT Security welcomes and encourages the feedback of all McMaster University systems administrators and data owners in the continuous improvement and development of these guidelines.  Please forward us your thoughts and ideas: c-it-security@mcmaster.ca
