Administrative Data & Access Control

WHO TO CONTACT

Production Analysts will support your administrative data security concerns (email: datasec@mcmaster.ca).

Administrative Application Data Owners...

To set up MVS and/or Oracle Security Access for a new or current employee, a request should be made by the departmental supervisor. Permission must be obtained from the application data owner:

  • Financial and Accounting System, FAS access -- Jan Peer (finserv@mcmaster.ca)
  • Student Records access -- RO Security (rosecur@mcmaster.ca)
  • On Line Cashiering -- Theresa Cooke (cooketm@mcmaster.ca)
  • Purchase Requisition System -- Carol Fletcher (fletchc@mcmaster.ca)
  • Media Production Services application -- Sue Moorcroft (moorcr@mcmaster.ca)
  • Academic Tracking System -- Judy Kovacs (kovacsj@mcmaster.ca) or Kim Clark (clarkim@mcmaster.ca)

McMaster's administrative computing systems (MVS and Oracle) are governed by the Guidelines on Access to Information and Protection of Privacy and must be used in accordance with the McMaster Code of Conduct for Computer and Network Users and applicable Senate policies. As a formal indication that you have read and understood these policies, print the Acknowledgement on Confidentiality and Computing Access form and send the completed form to UTS Data Security, GH, Room 302.

Requests to use University Data...

If your faculty or department is considering hosting an application that may require the use of university data owned by one of the areas above, you should discuss your requirements with the application data owner. Before data can be released, you must first complete the Request for Release of Data to University Personnel application form and review the security requirements with the application data owner and IT Security.

MVS and Oracle LogonID's...

For an MVS logonid, please indicate which applications (supersession screens) should be made accessible for the employee. Please supply the employee number, name and department. It is helpful to identify another individual in your department if the employee is to be set up with similar access.

There are a growing number of web-based applications that run under the Neon Web interface of the MVS system. These MVS (ADWEB) applications use the same MVS logonid and password as used with the legacy terminal applications through supersession.

For Oracle applications, once the Oracle logonid is created, the data owner grants the authorization access to the application.

If you have any problems with a logonid and/or need other accesses (ie access to particular datasets, db2 tables for QMF, etc), have your supervisor email the request to datasec@mcmaster.ca.

QMF customers: please supply the db2 table name(s) required. If you are going to run a canned query, please let us know which query it is so we can set up the table accesses you will need.

Password Resets...

If you cannot access Oracle due to password violations, we can reset a password for you.

If you cannot access MVS due to password violations, the Technology Service Desk can reset your password (uts@mcmaster.ca) or we can reset it for you.

Change your passwords at least once a month. There are links to password change forms on the Corporate Information Systems web page.

Generic Administrative Login ID's...

For authentication and audit purposes, UTS must be able to identify the individual who is responsible for all computing activity performed while logged in under any given logonid. In General, this means that one and only one individual is associated with a single logonid. Requests for a logonid that can be reused by more than one individual may arise from departments where one or more temporary staff, often on a recurring basis, but not necessarily by the same individual, fills a job function. If your department requires a generic logonid, please complete the Request for Reusable or Generic Administrative Logonid form and send to UTS Data Security, GH, Room 302.
