Creation of Research Data Mart

Single authoritative, University source of institutional data

  • Linking of research data with financial data, needed not only by research areas but several other units (e.g. Awarded, Received, Spent)

Reporting Capabilities

  • Creation of customized reports/templates (tailor to business role)
  • Capability to perform multi-dimensional analyses, all-inclusive reports, graphics
  • Development of key reports and queries to meet information needs (e.g. external Stakeholders)

Accessibility

  • Information exchange and sharing of data - community access to email and web postings

Efficiencies

  • Reduced duplication and re-keying
  • Less resource-intensive reporting

Creation of FAS Data Mart

  • Standardization of data definitions and business processes (e.g. sub-code usage)
  • Translation tables will eliminate need for end-users to understand details of where data is stored and how it must be manipulated
  • Scheduled, automated reporting of month-end account statements
  • Ability to link data regardless of platform in which it resides
  • Increased flexibility re classifying data, multi levels of reporting
  • Tailor reports according to business role
  • Customized, electronic versions of reports, such as Budget Templates, that can be easily transported into spreadsheets (reduced re-keying, reconciling)
  • Increased accountability to external stakeholders through reporting data from a secure, authoritative source; increased accountability and due diligence to internal stakeholders such as senior management

Increased knowledge in several areas:

  • Status of data environment (data sources, overlap, etc.)
  • Actual data status (accuracy, consistency, definitions, etc.)
  • Data architecture (building data marts, data modelling, mapping, design, cleansing, performance structuring, etc.)
  • System requirements (servers, query management tools)
  • Human resource requirements
  • User profile and feedback
