Planning and Projects

Active Directory
The Active Directory Project is an initiative of the Technology Round Table. The Technology Round Table is a joint committee of Senior IT and department leaders across campus, representing Faculties, Administration and Students whose goal is to promote a shared vision and collaborative approach to technology strategy across McMaster. The Active Directory Project began in 2009 with an objective to implement a single Active Directory domain structure for the university.

Business Intelligence (BI)
This page is designed to provide background information on the Business Intelligence Project, as well as information on implementation.

Like many other organizations, McMaster’s transactional applications do not store data in easily accessible data models that can be transformed into comprehensive, meaningful information to support evidenced-based decision-making. The creation of the research funding data mart and deployment of Business Intelligence tools has been a critical first step in creating a "University without boundaries".

Green IT
UTS has implemented several Green Initiatives and is working towards an objective whereby the initiatives become widely used practices on campus. There are many new Green beginnings that UTS is aspiring to introduce on campus.

MacViP

Mac VIP is being introduced to address the issues of regulatory compliance as well as improve efficiency and effectivness. Our current system has been unable to keep pace with legislative changes with which McMaster must be compliant.  In addition, the PPS system does not allow timely access to information, and is not as responsive as more modern systems that allow pay changes to be captured quickly.

Student Self Registration

Completed phases of the SSR project have delivered:

  • Student Online Academic Registration (SOLAR) for Undergraduate, School of Graduate Studies and MBA students
  • On-line Payment Agreement form for same groups
  • A new Fee Assessment system for the University

The Student Self Registration (SSR) project team is now working on the final deliverable of this four-year project - Registration by Section (RBS) for Undergraduate students

Student Portal

The student portal features single sign-on access to MUGSI, grades, timetables, e-mail, WebCT and more.

Revised UTS Strategy will be issued in the Spring of 2010

The Strategy was developed in collaboration with many members of the McMaster community. The process was “made at McMaster” and reflects extensive consultation with faculty, staff and students. Participants in the process conveyed a willingness to embrace change and a strong recognition of the importance of technology to McMaster. The wisdom, reflections, and wealth of ideas contributed by students, staff and faculty are sincerely valued.
