Frequently Asked Questions:
- If I am transferred out of the SpeechAttendant® application, will there be someone to help me?
Yes. There will be technical support available during regular business hours for the system and for callers.- Will I be able to press “0” to reach a live person?
No
- From the Main Menu Greeting, “0” transfers you into the SpeechAttendant® application
- From within the SpeechAttendant® application – “0” is not a valid option
- What happens if I dial “0” from the phone on my desk in my office?
“0” from any internal telephone will be transferred to the SpeechAttendant® application.
Will I still be able to enter the extension number if I know it?
Yes – you can enter the extension number at any time during the Main Menu Greeting or at any point in the SpeechAttendant® application.
Where does the SpeechAttendant® get it's information from when processing calls?
The information used by the SpeechAttendant® application comes directly from the Faculty & Staff Directory. This is the same data source that has always been used by the Switchboard, so nothing has changed in terms of where calls will be transferred. To update a listing within your department, please go to http://telecom.mcmaster.ca/directory
What do I do if my name is not pronounced correctly by the system?
Send an email to speechattendant@mcmaster.ca and we will provide you with instructions on how this can be corrected.
Does this mean that the operators will be laid off?
The University went through a series of layoffs during the month of June and unfortunately UTS was one of many departments impacted.
