University Technology Services

New Employees

Are you a new McMaster employee requiring access to UTS-managed services?

Services most Employees Require:

  • MAC ID: MAC ID is a common identifier. Your MAC ID provides authenticated access to a range of technology services including MacConnect, MacVote, Proxy Service, TrendMicro and Virtual Private Network (VPN). [List of Services]
  • Email Account: McMaster provides an email account for every employee.
  • IP Address: The computer in your office must have an IP number assigned to it to work on the McMaster network. If you have a new computer, administrative departments contact their Client Services support person; Faculty departments contact their designate.
  • Computer off-campus access: The computer in your office must be configured to allow you to access off-campus internet sites (not required to send e-mail to or receive e-mail from off-campus). Occasional off-campus access is available using the web proxy server.
  • Site Licence Software Access: Download your virus protection software.

Additional Services some Employees Require:

  • On-line Calendaring: Employees may use the centralized meeting scheduler and personal calendar (annual charge applies).
  • Office Server Access: If your department has shared space on a central UTS server you will require this to access the server. Contact the UTS Service Desk to create a ticket requesting this access.
  • Online E-Mail Distribution Lists: Employees may set up distribution lists for classes or other groups.
  • Web Administrator/Updating Web Pages: A Web Administrators ID account allows access to web pages for updating on McMaster's main web server. Employees in a faculty should contact your faculty web administrator.
    • IBM and Oracle Accounts: This allows access to administrative data such as Student Records and for departmental finance access such as e-forms (e.g. journal entries and Roll 3 payroll submission) and other administrative computing applications.
    • Click here for information to establish an IBM or Oracle account.
  • Roaming IP Access: This applies to employees who have laptops that need internet access from several locations on campus. See Roaming IP for McMaster Network.
  • Public Port Access: This would be of use to instructors using the internet in classrooms (contact LTRC for classroom information) or employees using public ports in areas such as in Mills Library, MUSC, or IAHS.
  • Server Access from the Internet: This would apply to employees who administer servers.
