Thunderbird: How to manage disk space usage on UnivMail

Please use one or more of the following options to manage your disk space on UnivMail.
(Based on your settings, deleted messages may be moved to trash)

Option 1
Delete messages you no longer require.

Open Thunderbird and select the message or messages no longer required and click the image delete icon in the menu bar.

Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders or Empty Trash.

Alternatively, select the message or messages no longer required.

Select Edit from the menu bar and click on Delete Message.

Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders or Empty Trash.

Alternatively, select the message or messages no longer required and right click. Select Delete Message.

Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders or Empty Trash.

Alternatively, select the message or messages no longer required and press the delete key.

Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders or Empty Trash.

 Option 2
Delete attachments you no longer require.

Open thunderbird and open the message with an attachment or attachments no longer required.

Select the attachment and right click.  Select Save As if you wish to save the attachment to your local computer. Select Delete to remove the attachment.

Alternatively, select the attachment and right click.  Select Detach.

Select a location on your local computer to store the attachment and click on OK.

Click on OK to remove the attachment from the email message.

Option 3
Move messages from your Sent folder on UnivMail to your local computer.

Open Thunderbird, select the messages in the UnivMail Sent and right click.

Select Move To à Local Folders à Sent

Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders.

Option 4
Configure Thunderbird to save messages in your local Sent Items folder.

Open Thunderbird, select Tools from the menu bar and click on Account Settings.

Click on + beside your email account to expand it.

Select Copies & Folders.

Set when sending messages, automatically to place a copy in the
Sent” Folder on Local Folders

Set Keep message drafts in:
“Drafts” Folder on: Local Folders

Set Keep message templates in:
“Templates” Folder on Local Folders

Click on OK

Option 5
Move folders from UnivMail to your local folders on your computer.

Open Thunderbird, select the folder you want to move to your local computer and drag it down to your Local Folders.

Thunderbird will create a copy in Local Folders. Click on the folder in UnivMail and delete. Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders or Empty Trash.

Option 6
Move messages from UnivMail to your local folders.

Open Thunderbird, select the messages you want to move to your local computer and right click.

Select Move To à Local Folders à Appropriate Local Mail Folder

Click on File in the menu bar and select Compact Folders.
