If you are planning to stay with McMaster University for a period of time you may request a courtesy MAC ID and Email. There are some things you need to know about our environment:

MacConnect and MAC ID

McMaster University has both wired and wireless internet connectivity. In order to use the internet at McMaster, either wired or wireless, you must be given a MAC ID. For more information on MAC ID visit:

Clean Access

Clean Access is a Cisco network access mechanism to check that computers and other devices connecting to the network do not pose a risk to others on the network.

• Linux/Macintosh users: Cisco Clean Access agent is not required
• Windows users: Clean Access provides a mechanism to authenticate your identity and makes sure you have all the latest Microsoft Windows Updates and security patches as well as an up to date anti-virus program on your laptop. Before You Leave Home

In order to speed up the process when you get to the university, you should make sure your computer has installed:

• All the latest windows updates. Get them here - http://update.microsoft.com
• Anti-virus program that is supported by Cisco Clean Access and up

Doing this in advance will shorten the time required to update your computer when you arrive at McMaster. For licensing reasons the Clean Access software cannot be downloaded until you actually get to McMaster.
