Encrypted WPA Wireless - Other Operating Systems


McMaster UTS does not provide support for the devices listed here. This document is provided as general reference only.

For Operating Systems other than Windows or Macintosh, we provide these settings for Wifi Protected Access configuration. Most operating systems provide support for WPA2, it's just a matter of inserting this information into the configuration of your device. Not every configuration will require all the provided information.


  • Network/SSID: Reznet-WiFi (you may have to manually type this in)
  • Network Authentication Method: WPA2 (sometimes called WPA2 Enterprise)
  • Data Encryption Method: AES
  • EAP Type: PEAP
  • Authentication Protocol: MS-CHAP-V2
  • Certificate Type: thawte Primary Root CA
  • Certificate Name: wireless.mcmaster.ca


Apple iPhone/ipod configuration steps:


  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap 'Reznet-WiFi'. When prompted, enter your MAC ID username and password then tap Join.
  4. When prompted with a certificate, tap Accept. Our certificate will display wireless.mcmaster.ca (thawte Primary Root CA).
  5. You will now be returned to the Wi-Fi Networks screen, and after a few moments a checkmark will appear beside 'Reznet-WiFi'.

You are now connected to the WPA-enabled McMaster Wireless network on your iPhone / iPod touch. Open your web browser to complete the connection.



Blackberry 8900/9000/9700:


  1. Go to the Manage Connections section.
  2. Set Wi-Fi to On then click Set Up Wi-Fi Network.
  3. Click Scan For Networks and click on Reznet-WiFi when it appears.
  4. Enter the following settings:
    • Security type: PEAP
    • User name: Your MAC ID
    • Password: Your MAC ID password
    • CA Certficate: thawte Premium Server CA
    • Innter link secuirty: EAP-MS-CHAP v2
    • Token: None Selected
    • Server subject: leave blank
    • Server SAN: leave blank
  5. Click Connect to connect to Reznet-WiFi. Leave the next settings as default and click Next then Finish.
  6. Under Internet Browser - Blackberry key - Select Options - Browser Configuration - make sure your Browser Identification is set to Blackberry (not Firefox or Internet Explorer).
  7. You might find installing the Wi-Fi Hotspot Login browser easier when using the Wifi connection. use the Wifi browser when connected to MacConnect, and your Normal Internet Browser when using your Service Provider network. You can download and install it directly from your Blackberry at http://www.hostj2me.com/m/appdetails.xhtml?id=6694&pn=2.
  8. You should now be connected to the "Reznet-WiFi" wireless network. Open your Wifi Hotspot browser to complete the connection. If you ever need to check if you are connected to "Reznet-WiFi", go to the Manage Connections section again and ensure that there is a green check mark next to "Reznet-WiFi". If it is not connected, try unchecking/disabling WiFi, wait a few moments, and then turn it back on again.
